Brazil Property News: Brazil aims for 2014 World Cup

4th September 2007 11:34

Brazil is hoping to host the 2014 football World Cup.

The sport's governing body Fifa has already decided that after South Africa hosts the tournament in 2010, the festival of football should move South America and Brazil is currently the only candidate country.

However, Fifa has said that if Brazil is not up to scratch the competition could be held outside South America, with Australia being a favourite.

Brazil's president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has backed the bid for the World Cup and an inspection team from Fifa is now in the country.

Hugo Salcedo, head of the inspection team, said Brazil's presentation "was done with great professionalism and competence.

"We felt ... the soul, the enthusiasm, the spirit that is Brazil."

A final decision on the destination for the 2014 World Cup is expected later this year.
