Brazil Property News: Brazil celebrates record crops

29th February 2008 11:51

Brazil has announced this week that it expects to harvest 139.3 million tons of grains and oil seed in the 2007 to 2008 season.

The figure is a 5.4 per cent increase from the previous crop season and has been boosted by the use of gene-modified seeds to grow stronger plants.

Agriculture consultant company, Agroconsult, told Brazzil Mag: "High prices for commodities in the international market have influenced an increase in the planted area for the 2007 to 08 crop, particularly soy beans and corn."

The firm added that production has been confirmed by a "normalisation of January rainfall" all over the country and the control of an outbreak of Asian rust in soy plantations in the centre-west.

Property investors considering buying real estate in Brazil may be encouraged by this news, as it may have a positive effect on the nation's economy as a whole.

Earlier this week, the Brazilian furniture sector announced that, due to low inflation and the potential growth of the civil construction and real estate markets, it is forecasting positive results for 2008.

The Sao Paulo Industry Federation also noted that an increase in new or remodelled houses would encourage the consumption of new furniture.
