Brazil Property News: Brazil expects 'half a million visitors'

1st November 2007 04:04

Over half a million people will visit Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, according to a new report.

The Brazilian tourist agency Embratur has said that the country hopes to attract over 500,000 tourists when it holds the international football tournament.

Jeanine Pires told the Bangkok Post: "The presence of 500,000 tourists for just a single event will without a doubt shake the country's economy.

"Brazil is known and respected across the world for its football. There is nothing more natural than making the most of that opportunity to show the world that we have all it takes to host great events and reinforce the spread of Brazil's attractions."

The Latin American country has already named 18 venues for the tournament, 14 of which will be renovated while four brand new stadiums will be built for the event.

Brazil's tourist industry is currently growing at a rate of 7.2 per cent, making it the second biggest tourist economy in Latin America, after Mexico.

Officials are hoping that the massive influx of football fans in 2014 will help promote Brazilian tourism to holidaymakers worldwide.
