Brazil Property News: Brazil 'eyes tourists' from Emirates

7th December 2007 10:38

Brazilian officials have signed an agreement to promote tourism in Brazil to the United Arab Emirates, India and China.

The Brazilian Tourism Institute, Embratur, has signed a joint deal with Argentina's National Institute for Tourist Promotion that outlines how the two countries will work together at workshops and fairs to promote tourism in their nations.

Embratur's president, Jeanine Pires, described how the two Latin American countries were not in competition for tourism, as most holidaymakers who have travelled a long distance to arrive in either country were likely to visit the other as well.

She told Brazilian Arab news agency ANBA: "When a tourist comes from a distant country, his plan is to go on integrated routes."

Embratur's participation in events such as the Arabian Travel Market between May 6th and 9th next year has already been confirmed as part of the project.

Last year alone Brazil received 41,461 tourists from the Middle East with Sao Paulo emerging as the most visited state, receiving 23,084 people from the region, followed by Rio de Janeiro, which welcomed 7,670 tourists from the Middle East.
