People considering investing in property for sale in Brazil could be interested to hear the nation has become the world's fifth largest honey exporter, it has been reported.
The news from the country's Sectoral Chamber for the Honey Production Chain hints at economic buoyancy in the Latin American nation.
Figures disclosed on Friday (September 12th) reveal exports of honey totalled $18.2 billion (£9 million), according to Brazzil Mag.
This represents growth of 70 per cent compared with the same period last year and puts Brazil fifth in the table of world honey exporting nations by volume.
Jose Gomercindo da Cunha, president of the chamber, said the result was due to demand from Europe and the organisation is committed to maintaining its sales to the continent.
"We are working with the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service, and 25 states are already willing to contribute to nationwide promotional work. The proposal is to raise per capita consumption from 100 to 120 grams," he added.
According to BeesforDevelopment, the European Union suspended the import of Brazilian honey on March 7th 2006 giving a six month deadline for the nation to restructure its quality control procedures.
