Brazil Property News: Brazil invests in education

15th September 2008 04:00

Education in Brazil is set to be boosted by a $10 billion (£5 billion) increase in funding over the course for the next year, it has been reported.

Those considering Brazilian property could be interested to hear the Ministry of Education (MEC) announced the budget of $41.5 billion in 2009 for basic vocation, vocational education, higher education and literacy, according to Agencia Brasil.

Henrique Paim, executive secretary of the MEC, told the news agency a clear distribution between the four key areas of the budget can be seen offering diversity.

Mr Paim added that since 2007, the payment of grants is made directly to literacy by the MEC.

"The goals have not changed, we are adjusting the budget to the new pace of implementation of the programme," he explained.

The report concluded that the project will expand the network of federal vocational and technical education in the country.

It was reported by Reuters earlier in the month that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said he was set to invest some of the nation's oil money into the education sector.
