GlaxoSmithKline has announced it is to create a new region to cover the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) after highlighting them as significant growth factors of the future, according to Reuters.

The firm's new chief executive said in a statement: "They are already contributing close to 25 per cent of today's market growth and are forecast to grow even faster in the future, around triple the rate of western countries.

"A key element of this new team's remit will be to proactively seek new business opportunities to expand our global reach and drive sales growth."
