Brazil Property News: Brazil leads Latin America's foreign investment

12th May 2008 04:18

Brazil attracted the most foreign direct investment (FDI) of all the Latin American countries last year, it has emerged.

People considering buying property in Brazil could be interested to hear that as the region received record investment, the nation led the way seeing a total of $34.6 billion (£17.25 billion) pumped into its industries.

A report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) showed the region's FDI totalled $106 billion (£53 billion) in 2007, according to ANBA.

Brazil saw an increase of more than four-fifths (84 per cent) from the previous year, and according to Eclac, the services sector received the greatest amount of FDI which suggests there could be booming tourist figures this year.

The South American nation was also the biggest origin of funds going the other way as it invested $7.07 billion last year compared to £28.2 billion the previous year.

Meanwhile the country was tipped last week to receive further foreign investment boosts after it had been appointed investment grade by Standard & Poor.

The Brazilian Society of Transnational Corporations and Economic Globalisation revealed the reclassification should provide further incentives to the entry of foreign investment, reported the news agency.
