Brazil is poised to strengthen its economic ties with China following a meeting between the two countries' presidents at the G8 summit this week.

In a development that will undoubtedly interest potential investors in Brazil real estate, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva - the Brazilian president - chatted to Chinese president Hu Jintao about expanding cooperation on the basis of "mutual benefit" for the nations.

President Hu remarked that as the two represent the biggest developing countries in the eastern and western hemispheres, any strengthening of dialogue is in the interest of people living there, as well as consolidating "South-South cooperation".

The Chinese leader praised the development and progress made by the China-Brazil strategic partnership so far and affirmed that his country is willing to make joint efforts with Brazil to "optimise bilateral trade structure, enlarge mutual investments and enhance cooperation in fields such as infrastructure, energy and resources".

He also singled out agriculture as a significant area of interest, before calling for further cooperation in the fields of education, culture and tourism.

President Lula concluded the meeting by confirming that he will attend the opening ceremony of the upcoming Beijing Olympics.
