Brazil Property News: Brazilian agriculture 'up by fifth'

13th October 2008 07:00

Brazilian property investors could be interested to hear the nation's agriculture is set to grow by almost one fifth (17 per cent) over the course of this year, it has been reported.

Figures released by Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply's Strategic Management Advisory suggest the estimate for the sector's income this year will contribute $75 million (£43 million) to the economy, according to the Brazzil magazine.

The report notes the figure is with regards to the gross production value of 20 crops and is calculated by the multiplication of production volume by the price received by farmers.

"According to the strategic planning coordinator at the ministry, Jose Garcia Gasques, eventual effects of the international financial crisis were not taken into account in the survey, as it considers prices practiced in July," the publication stated.

Meanwhile, in other news it was reported by the website that the nation was set to meet with other Mercosur last week to ensure it is ready for any possible impact from the global financial crisis.
