Brazil Property News: Brazilian airline buys 28 aircraft

23rd November 2007 10:37

Brazil's fourth biggest airline has bought 28 Airbus jets this week.

OceanAir made the purchases, estimated to be worth more than $2.5 billion (£1.25 billion), from the European aircraft manufacturer to increase the number of flight routes it can operate.

The 28 aircraft purchased included 21 short-to-mid-range A320s and seven medium-to-long-haul A330-200 aircraft.

An option was also submitted on another 13 A320s in the not-too-distant future.

German Efromovich, the president of the airline, said: "With this acquisition, OceanAir is consolidating its position in the Brazilian market."

Mr Efromovich added that the A330-200s would serve the airline's international routes, while the A320s would fly to domestic airports.

Earlier this month Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, Embraer, announced that it had received over 60 orders for its aircraft at the Dubai Air Show, bringing the worth of its total orders at the event up to $665.5 million (£325.16 million).

Growth in the aviation industry is good news for Brazil as it will make it easier for tourists to travel in and out of the country.
