Brazil Property News: Brazilian airline expands fleet

14th September 2007 03:34

Brazil's largest airline has expanded its fleet, receiving two new A321 Airbuses.

The planes, delivered directly from the factory in Hamburg, will be used by the airline on domestic routes and have the capacity for 220 passengers each.

According to industry analysts, the airline now has 89 Airbus models, having already received 18 new aircraft this year and plans to end 2007 with 111 planes. It also has the youngest fleet of planes in Brazil, averaging at 7.1 years.

Marco Atonio Bologna, TAM's president, said the new additions to their fleet would allow the company to "open new routes" connecting passengers with important cities.

"The A321 will provide us with the lowest seat-mile costs in this market segment, allowing us to optimise our network in the southern cone of Latin America, whilst maintaining a high level of passenger comfort."

TAM has a 49.3 per cent domestic market share and has led the Brazilian domestic market since July 2003, reports CNN money. It was the first Brazilian airline company to launch a loyalty programme and flies throughout South and North America, as well as all over Europe.
