Brazil Property News: Brazilian airline signs interline agreements

Brazilian airline Varig (VRG) has announced that it has signed six agreements with international airline carriers.
The deal sees VRG forming alliances with Germany's Hahn Air, Hungary's Malev, Israel's El Al, Italy's Air One, Mexico's Mexicana and Qatar's Qatar Airways, as well as a recent interline deal with fellow Brazilian airline Gol.
As of this month VRG passengers will be able to purchase tickets to destinations in these countries through the Brazilian airline's partners.
Lincoln Amana, VRG's commercial director, said: "Through these agreements VRG offers its customers an expanded flight network providing services to cities where the company does not currently operate."
The interline agreements simplify ticket purchases for global travel agents and VRG's call centres.
On September 17th VRG joined the Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreement, which is a network of airlines from around the world whose members all have the option of forming interline agreements with each other.
The news follows reports this week that a 134 per cent increase in foreign tourism in Brazil over three years has led to a "real-estate boom" in the north-eastern region of the country.
Significant developments are planned to help accommodate the recent "boom" in this area including San Gonzalvo airport, which is due to open in 2010 and will be the world's fourth largest airport.
