People looking to buy property in Brazil for a holiday or retirement would do little wrong but to target the beach town of Ilhabela, Brazil, an expert has suggested.
Moller Feltner of SmarterTravel.com told USA today that the town is one of the most affordable islands left in the Americas.
She argued that the relatively little-known town could be an alternative to the popular city of Rio de Janiero, which was recently lauded for its diversity of races, colours and creeds and classed as one of the most spectacular cities on the planet by World 66.
Ilhabela proves that Rio de Janeiro does not have a monopoly on beautiful Braziliam beach towns and is a welcoming and affordable destination for foreigners, Ms Feltner told the news provider.
Activities such as hiking, boating, horseback riding and cascading are all possible on the town's eastern side, while the Praia do Bonete beach provides a windswept cove reminiscent of Big Sur, she added.
In the article Ms Feltner also noted: "Ilhabela - Portuguese for beautiful island - is the tropical refuge Paulistas head to when they tire of crowded urban beaches."
