Brazil Property News: Brazilian broadband improvements nearing finale

9th April 2008 04:33

A Brazilian telecoms company has revealed it is set to complete the first part of its plan to improve broadband services in the country.

Embratel announced it was close to completing an implementation of a broad WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) network in 12 cities.

People considering buying property in Brazil could be interested to hear that the country's broadband infrastructure is set to be improved.

WiMax is a technology aimed at providing point-to-point and mobile internet access, depending on the requirements of each application.

Jose Formoso, president of Embratel, commented: "This project is the bottom line of a special work involving the use of 3.5 GHz band radio frequency.

"Using this band to expand the broadband access supply has long been a major focus of this solution."

Areas that do not currently have DSL or fibre-optic infrastructure in place can benefit from the coverage.

It is believed that better internet and telecoms services will drive growth in the Latin American country.
