Brazil Property News: Brazilian firm declares environmental commitment

2nd November 2007 01:59

A Brazilian aircraft builder – which made the world’s first alcohol-fuelled plane – has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental principles this week.

Embraer has appointed a team of directors to supervise and expand its environmental policies.

Brazil has a unique environment, and as home to enormous tracts of tropical rainforest a unique position in the whole world’s ecosystem.

Deforestation and habitat loss have been major concerns for environmentalists in recent decades, but Embraer is leading the way for Brazilian business in attempting to preserve what makes Brazil so special.

“We are going to reexamine our strategies for dealing with present and future issues, minimizing the company's environmental impact and contributing to the global effort to reduce the emission of greenhouse effect gases and global warming,” said director for environmental strategies and technologies, Graciliano Campos.

Embraer’s Ipanema aircraft, first launched in 2004, uses an alcohol-based fuel. It was the first plane to be certified to use such a fuel, and is carbon neutral.

In 2006, Embraer confirmed that its rate of recycling was 79.6 per cent.
