Brazil Property News: Brazilian president praises Olympics

4th August 2008 04:55

Brazilian premier Luis Inacio Lula da Silva has given his best wishes to China ahead of the forthcoming Olympic Games in Beijing.

The president said 277 Brazilian athletes will compete in the event - its biggest ever delegation - as the country aims to increase awareness of its own bid for the games in 2016.

Mr da Silva told the Xinhua news agency the government has invested a substantial amount of money in Brazil's infrastructure and security to increase the likelihood of it hosting the event.

If the bid is successful, it would be the first time the Olympics have been hosted by a South American country and could increase interest in buying property in Brazil.

Earlier today (August 4th) it was reported the Brazilian delegation has raised its flag at a ceremony at the Olympic village.

Joao Havelange, the 92-year-old former president of the Federation of International Football Association, was among the guests present.
