Brazil Property News: Brazilian president promotes biofuel in Africa

18th October 2007 02:07

Brazilian President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva has promoted biofuels to several African nations this week.

Following a summit with the Indian and South African heads of state this week, President Lula is now on a four-nation tour of Africa offering Brazil's expertise in developing biofuel technology.

The president of Brazil, which is the world leader in ethanol derived from sugarcane, announced that the Latin American country has agreed to assist West Africa's development of ethanol programmes.

It is hoped that by using biofuels African countries can continue with economic growth without having a detrimental affect on the environment.

President Lula said: "At an hour when Africa is taking up the path of growth again, ethanol and biodiesel provide a way to guarantee the continent's energy autonomy and economic sovereignty."

Earlier this year, the Brazilian president visited the Netherlands to promote biofuel to nations such as Sweden, which aims to power all its vehicles with biofuel by 2020.
