Brazil Property News: Brazilian tourism looks forward to 2008

Brazilian tourism businesses expect the sector to continue to thrive during 2008, a conference in Sao Paulo has heard this week.
Following on from a record year in 2007, when the industry generated 34.1 billion Brazilian reals ($19.8 billion), research presented at the Annual Research of Economic Conjecture in Tourism on Monday showed that businesses expect revenues to rise by 16.7 per cent, personnel working in tourism to increase by 8.5 per cent, and prices to rise by 5.5 per cent.
With more people flocking to the country each year, associated sectors including investment and holiday property in Brazil are likely to receive similar stimulation.
The research was carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Getulio Vargas Foundation, and took in the largest 92 tourist industry companies in Brazil.
As regards the obstacles to growth identified by the study, the main complaints were poor transport infrastructure – both roads and airports – the state of aviation and restrictive laws.
The former, however, could be addressed by a partnership announced last week between the Inter American Development Bank and the tourism ministry, enabling states and municipalities to take out tourism development loans.
