Brazil Property News: Brazilian tourist board hires PR company

3rd October 2007 08:21

The Brazilian tourist board, Embratur, has hired an international public relations firm to publicise the country's tourist potential in the US.

Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide will promote the five key attributes outlined by the government – sun and beach, ecotourism, culture, sports and business events.

Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has implemented a new tourism initiative for the Latin American country, the Aquarela Plan, which calls for greater consumer awareness about Brazil.

Under this plan the Brazilian Tourist Board aims to attract around 9 million US tourists, which it forecasts will bring the county $8 billion (£4 billion) by 2010.

Mike Hatcliffe, managing director of Ogilvy PR in Chicago said: "We're thrilled to have the opportunity to help Americans discover Brazil."

He added that the company was looking forward to "educating" the untapped US market about the "exciting travel destinations and activities" available in Brazil.

Embratur has nine global offices based in Lisbon, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan and Tokyo. In addition the Brazilian-China Chamber of economic development announced plans this week to open an office in China to further boost tourist relations with the country.
