Brazil Property News: Brazilians learn English to attract investment

1st April 2008 04:55

Brazilian businesses are learning English in a bid to attract more foreign investment.

The 'Viva Bento' (Long live Bento) group was launched last week in the region of Bento Gonçalves.

It aims to encourage economic and social growth in the region in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The scheme, intended to ensure more Brazilians are speaking English, could make it easier for investors buying property in Brazil.

In addition to the language training, the group aims to invest in and improve the physical structure of its enterprises and revitalise Via Del Vino – the trading centre of Brazil's wine capital.

The project is supported by the state's Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service will support it in partnership with other organisations and teaching institutions.

Zelia Maria Santos, a businesswoman taking part, said: "We are conducting an in-depth exploration of the tourism issue, and we need to bring that into our commercial establishments.

"To that extent, speaking another language is essential, so as to provide tourists with special services and, consequently, increase our sales."
