Brazil Property News: Brazilians spend $370m on foreign trips

21st November 2007 10:36

Brazilian tourists spent $370 million (£185 million) on trips to foreign countries in September this year, according to new reports.

The 50.96 per cent growth in expenditure, compared with the same month last year, is reflected across other industries in the country indicating a growing amount of disposable income in the nation.

Earlier this month Brazil reported that its retail sales had risen ten per cent from this time in 2006, marking nine months of consecutive growth in the sector.

The biggest booms were in car sales (15.8 per cent), supermarket and tobacco sales (7.5 per cent) and home appliances (20.1 per cent).

As well taking more foreign trips, Brazilians are also seeing an influx of foreign tourists in their holiday resorts.

The national tourist board, Embratur, reported a record number of foreign tourists travelling to the country this August and claims that tourism in Brazil is growing at a rate of 7.2 per cent annually.
