Brazil Property News: Brazil's GDP grows in second quarter of 2008

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Brazil has been boosted by the agriculture and construction industries, according to new figures.

In news which may affect people interested in property in Brazil, the GDP grew 6.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2008, compared to the figures for the same period 12 months ago.

Figures by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE) revealed that the agriculture industry grew by 7.1 per cent, with civil construction growing by 9.9 per cent.

Rebecca Palis, IBGE economist, said the consumption of families also grew over the last 12 months.

"Civil construction, the Growth Acceleration Programme and others have also boosted the civil construction boom and helped expand the rate of growth of the GDP, she added.

Other recent data from the IBGE found that workers in Brazil had seen a wage increase of 1.3 per cent month-on-month in July, brazzilmag.com reported.
