Brazil's construction industry 'to build on' strength

In news which may be of interest to those considering buying property in Brazil, the nation's construction industry should grow by a tenth this year, according to an industry body.

New research carried out on behalf of the Union of the Civil Construction Industry (Sinduscon) predicted the growth.

Sinduscon revealed that the industry grew by nine per cent last year and suggests that this performance will be beaten in 2008.

It cites the economy's booming performance and the nation's increasing purchasing powers as the main causes of the segment's performance, reports ANBA.

The publication added that another factor boosting the industry is the fact that approximately 15 per cent of Brazil's households are unfinished and most require constant maintenance work.

Brazil has South America's largest economy and it is showing a steady growth, the BBC reports.

Cost of living in the nation is a fifth of that in the UK.
