Brazil Property News: Brazil's president 'predicts more jobs in 2009'

30th December 2008 05:29

Brazilian property investors may be interested to know that the country's president thinks it has been a "good year" and that government will continue to work towards growing the economy.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said nearly 2.2 million jobs were created up until October, Brazzil magazine reports.

"Whereas some countries in the world are in recession, Brazil might grow a bit less than previously forecasted, but it will keep on growing and generating jobs," he added.

He continued that the country has a "strong domestic market", saying the government prepared for challenges in 2009 and will work to keep the economy expanding, the publication states.

According to the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics, Brazil's gross domestic product increased by 6.3 per cent in the year ending September 2008, with growth of nearly seven per cent recorded in the third quarter.

The country's overall growth this year is predicted to be the highest since 1986 at around six per cent.
