Brazil's tourist industry is "increasing rapidly" thanks to new airports and flight routes, according to industry experts.
The Brazilian government has injected more than $670 million (£330.8 million) into the countrys infrastructure and tourist industry over recent years, under the initial phase of PRODETUR, the government's Action Programme for the Integrated Development of Tourism.
Under the scheme eight airports have been built and 1,010km of highway has been constructed and improved. In addition 732,000 square metres of historic heritage areas have been regenerated.
There are also plans for another airport to be built in the city of Sao Goncalo, located 30 kilometres from Natal, which according to Rio Grande do Norte's state government would have the capacity to accommodate five million passengers per year.
However, funding for this development is yet to be finalised.
Phase two of PRODETUR has now been set in motion and will include a further investment of $400 million (£200 million) to improve aid infrastructure.
