Brazil Property News: 'Brits move in on Brazil's coastline'

8th April 2008 04:40

British investors are moving in on Brazil's coastline, a housing expert has said.

Columnist Susan Emmett wrote in the Times last week that wealthy investors seeking "safer havens for their capital" now consider Latin America.

She believes that many of the new resorts that are in the northeast have the best year-round weather and some of the "most beautiful beaches".

According to Ms Emmett, the stretch of coast between Salvador and Fortaleza was "fairly undeveloped until European developers starting building about five years ago.

"Now the British are moving in," she added.

"Property prices have been rising fast in the biggest country in Latin America, thanks to a burgeoning middle class, preparations for the 2014 football World Cup and a growing number of foreign investors," she concluded.

Last month it was reported that Americans were now following suit and actively considering the benefits of investing in non-dollar assets – such as property in Brazil – as the US economy was on the brink of a serious downturn.
