Brazil Property News: Emerging markets 'continue to boom'

4th January 2008 01:49

Emerging markets will "continue to boom" economically in 2008, according to industry experts.

Maarten-Jan Bakkum, an emerging markets strategist at ABN AMRO Asset Management, has said that despite a generally difficult investment environment in 2008 emerging markets will be supported by the continuation of a "number of positive trends".

The positive trends were described by Bakkum as globalisation, outsourcing, investments in infrastructure and housing and finally "demographic developments".

However, Bakkum noted that some emerging markets are performing better than others, citing Brazil's success last year.

"We are beginning to see wild divergences in performance among emerging markets…For example in 2007 Brazil had a stellar year, rising by 70 per cent, while Mexico managed to rise by only 10 per cent," he said.

ABN AMRO Asset Management is one of the world's leading asset managers, with significant experience in managing assets for private investors and for institutional clients including central banks, pension funds and insurance companies.

It manages assets of EUR210.6 billion (£156.794 billion) from over 20 locations around the globe.
