Brazil Property News: Europeans invest in Brazilian wind farms

6th August 2008 07:00

Brazilian property could benefit from an increased interest from environmentally-friendly investors after two European renewable energy firms agreed to a joint wind energy project in the country.

Italy's biggest energy firm, Enel, and Germany's SoWiTec signed up to a project together which could produce up to 1,000 megawatts (mw), it has been reported by Reuters.

Under the deal, announced today (August 6th) by Enel, the Italian organisation will purchase exclusive rights for eight wind projects at initial stages of development and will also be able to buy the ventures once they are completed.

According to Enel, the agreement could boost its presence in the Brazilian renewable energy market thus enabling it to grow significantly.

"Enel has recently been pushing aggressively into wind power generation. The group's installed wind capacity around the world stood at 1,002 mw at the end of June and it targets 5,000 mw by the end of 2012," the report concluded.

Meanwhile, the booming state-owned oil giant Petrobras has given the Brazilian economy a further boost by the news it is the second-biggest company in Latin America.
