Brazil Property News: Foreign tourists spend record amount in Brazil

21st January 2008 11:50

Foreign tourists have spent a record amount of money whilst visiting Brazil last year, according to new figures.

The Brazilian Central Bank released the data this month which reveals that 2007 was the best year ever in Brazil's international tourism history, in terms of foreign tourists' expenditure.

Revenue from tourism had reached a record $4,484 billion (£2,242 billion) by November 2007, a 3.89 per cent increase from the $4,316 billion recorded in 2006 – which was a historic record.

If the monthly inflow increased at the same pace throughout December 2007 then experts predict that the final revenue figure for Brazilian tourism in 2007 should be around $5 million (£2.5 million).

Comparing the figures on a monthly basis reveals that revenue from foreign tourist expenditure in November 2007 was up by 19.81 per cent from the same month in the previous year.

Embratur, the Brazilian tourism institute, has reported previously that tourism in Brazil is growing at an annual rate of 7.2 per cent.
