Brazil Property News: Gol celebrates flying 70 million passengers

12th November 2007 02:41

One of Brazil's leading airlines, Gol, is celebrating reaching the landmark of having flown seventy million passengers since its inception.

The low-cost airline, which began operating on January 15th 2001, offers holidaymakers, property owners and businessmen alike inexpensive flights in and out of Brazil – a service which has clearly proved popular.

Tarcisio Gargioni, vice-president of marketing and services at Gol, said: "Transporting 70 million people in less than seven years is a significant accomplishment for a young airline.

"Our business model allows us to offer tickets at competitive fares, increasing the accessibility of air transportation and setting new performance records in the Brazilian aviation industry."

The news coincides with rival Brazilian airline Embraer's announcement this week that its net profit for the third quarter of 2007 is nearly double what it achieved in the same period during 2006.

Embraer has also signed a deal this month with Spanish travel operator Globalia for 11 executive jets, rumoured to be worth around $62.31 million (£30.09 million).

Brazil's strengthening aviation industry may well have a knock on effect on its tourism and property industries, as improved aviation links encourage property investors to snap up real estate in the country which has low-entry costs and the potential for high returns.
