Brazil Property News: Lula to unveil biofuel plans

Brazilian property investors with an eco-conscience could be interested to hear that president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will present a study highlighting the potential for the expansion of the ethanol industry, it has been reported.

President Lula will unveil the agricultural zoning plan on November 17th in Sao Paulo, according to the Brazil Arab News Agency (ANBA).

The study prepared by the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply will be disclosed at the launch of the International Conference on Biofuels, which runs until November 21st.

Brazil's minister of agriculture, Reinhold Stephanes, is quoted by the ANBA as saying: "The study is going to show the areas for expansion of agriculture in the country, without including the Amazon, the Pantanal [and] native Indian areas."

Meanwhile, in other news biofuel firm Monsanto revealed this week it was investing in the country to diversify its existing sugarcane crop portfolio.

The firm's vice-president Carl Casale said global demands for raw sugar and biofuels are rising at an increasing pace.
