Brazil Property News: Mercosur summit held in Brazil

16th December 2008 11:33

Those considering buying property for sale in Brazil could be interested to learn that the nation is set to host the Mercosur summit, it has been reported.

According to Brazzil Magazine, 33 countries are taking part in the summit in Salvador and Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are discussing the end of the double tariff.

Brazilian foreign affairs minister Celso Amorim told the publication that the talks have met a stumbling block and he was disappointed that a consensus has not been reached.

"This will bring consequences: it's not only something which we should have left behind long time ago, it will make negotiations with other groups difficult, particularly with the European Union," he added.

According to the report, the summit is attended by a number of countries from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, the publication reported last week that the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association claimed the region's sector has been relatively unaffected by the financial downturn.
