Brazil Property News: Minister shines a light on Brazilian tourism

21st January 2008 11:51

The Brazilian minister of tourism has shed some light on the Brazilian tourism industry this week.

Marta Suplicy disclosed the findings of research on the international tourism demand, which found that the events, business and conventions market is expanding faster than the leisure tourism sector.

However leisure tourism currently still accounts for 44.1 per cent of the foreign visits in 2006 – a figure that has remained steady since 2005.

Business trips, events and conventions account for a further 28.1 per cent of the tourism industry while the remaining percentile accounts for those who come to Brazil to visit relatives, friends or for study.

The study revealed that the typical foreign tourist visiting Brazil is aged between 32 and 50 years old, is a graduate, has visited the country previously and considers its basic tourism infrastructures to be "good".

Such positive feed back was cited by the minister as one of the main reasons that 96 per cent of Brazil's foreign visitors intend to return back to the country.

Furthermore, the research stated that 5.1 million tourists visited the country in 2007.

Marta called this data an "important analysis tool" which government officials could use to "formulate tourism policies".
