Brazil Property News: More Brits opt for 'long-haul destinations'

24th January 2008 01:52

There has been an increase in the number of Britons who are choosing to take long-haul breaks outside of Europe.

According to the Office for National Statistics, one in five Brits opted out of European holidays in 2006 instead choosing to don their swimsuits in far-flung locations such as Brazil.

Figures also revealed that UK nationals were undertaking 3.7 per cent more foreign trips between 2005 and 2006 than in the previous 12 months, with 69.5 million Brits jetting off.

Travel Weekly reported earlier in the week that the reduced cost of flying further afield has encouraged this trend as long-haul locations are now more affordable.

Such news may be of interest to those considering investing in property in places such as Brazil, as a larger tourist market could produce better rental opportunities.

The Brazilian institute of tourism, Embratur, reported at the end of last year that tourism in the Latin American nation is growing at a rate of 7.2 per cent.
