Brazil Property News: New Brazilian components on Bric 50 Index

18th September 2007 04:17

Four new components have been added to the Dow Jones Bric 50 index in its regular annual review, it was announced yesterday.

Those leaving the index included Tele Norte Leste Participacoes and Embraer-Empresa Brasileiras de Aeronautica to be replaced by Banco Santander Banespa and Banco do Brasil.

The investable blue-chip index measures each of the four Bric countries, Brazil, Russia, India and China’s annual performance by tracking the economic performance a selection of leading companies in each t.

Global consultancy, KPMG, also monitor the performance of Bric nations through their emerging markets international acquisitions tracker, which analyses “deal flows” between nine emerging markets.

Recent research by the company has revealed that the Bric countries are “fast closing the gap” on their developed counterparts in cross-border acquisitions.

Chairman of KPMG's new and emerging markets practice in the UK, Ian Gomes, said emerging-into-developed deals have risen by a strong ratio in the past four years.

He added: “This begs the question as to when one will overtake the other…it’s feasible that this crossover could happen within the next two years.”
