Brazil Property News: New air carrier proposed for Brazil

29th February 2008 11:40

The founder of JetBlue Airways is looking to offer a new air service in Brazil, according to reports this week.

Brazil's Civil Aeronautics Agency (ANAC) says that David Neeleman has met with its director, Solange Paiva Vieira, in Brasilia to discuss the possibility of launching a new domestic airline in Latin American's biggest nation.

A spokeswoman for the ANAC told the International Herald Tribune: "Mr Neeleman came to express his interest in operating in Brazil, but he did not make a formal proposal nor did he say when he planned to conclude his project."

The introduction of another domestic airline in Brazil would provide major competition for market leaders TAM and Gol airlines.

Earlier this week, Brazil's aviation authority announced that it had agreed to proposals allowing the nation's airlines to slash their prices by as much as 50 per cent.

As a result, Brazilian airlines will be able to offer flights in and out of the country at more competitive prices.

This may be good news for property owners in the nation as it will allow both them and others to access their properties more affordably.
