Brazil Property News: New highway to boost Brazilian agricultural exports

25th July 2008 04:50

Brazil agricultural exports are to be boosted by the construction of a new highway connecting the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Due to be completed in September next year, the 3,000 kilometres-long highway will benefit the distribution of products such as sugarcane, soy and cotton as well the cattle farming industry, Brazzil Magazine reports.

Government estimates claim the foreign grain trade will total 135 million tonnes by 2010 - a trend which may boost the economy and interest people considering buying property in Brazil.

The highway, which will cover Brazil, Bolivia and Chile, will help solve the transport bottleneck currently hampering Brazilian agricultural production and provide improved access to the Asian market, agriculture and cooperative development secretary Marcio Portocarrero told the magazine.

According to the Financial Times, the Brazilian government recently announced plans to increase the amount of credit available for agricultural use by 12 per cent, to the equivalent of around £24.4 billion - news which may interest potential buyers of Brazilian property.
