Brazil Property News: Orient Express buys Brazilian hotel

28th September 2007 09:46

Orient Express Hotels has bought the Hotel das Cataratas in Brazil, which is located just two minutes from the Iguacu Falls.

The 200-room hotel, a two-storey, Portuguese colonial-style building, is located within the Iguacu National Park in the Parana region of Brazil, which is a United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation World Heritage centre.

Due to its ecological operating policies, the Hotel das Cataratas, which will open under the new management on October 1st, was the first property in Latin America to qualify for the ISO 14001 environmental management certificate.

This will be the Orient Express Hotels' third business in Brazil, where it owns the Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro and in June this year signed a deal to purchase 185,000 square metres of land in Buzios, one of the most exclusive holiday destinations in the country.

With this land the company intends to develop a boutique resort and a real estate development of 17 villas, which Orient Express Hotels estimates will take it 20 months to build.

Brazil was recently named in a national British newspaper as one of the top six places in the world for property investment due to reliable weather conditions, stunning beaches, cheap property prices and a steadily growing economy.
