Brazil Property News: Petrobras create jobs

9th October 2008 07:00

Those considering Brazilian property could be interested to hear the Latin American nation's state oil company has launched a new platform, it has been reported.

Petrobras has baptised its first semi-submersible platform built in Brazil, according to the Brazil Arab News Agency.

The ceremony took place in Agra do Reis, Rio de Janeiro for the platform that was built with 75 per cent of national goods and services, the report adds.

Named the P-51, the project is supported under the government's Growth Acceleration Programme.

According to the ANBA, it cost around $1 billion (£500 million) to build and works on the unit will create around 16,000 jobs, which is good news for Brazil real estate as the workers will need somewhere in the city to live.

"The forecast is for the platform to go to Campos Basin in October and to start operating at the end of this year, producing a daily average of 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent," the report detailed.

Petrobras was founded in 1953.
