Brazil Property News: Petrobras to build another refinery

30th May 2008 04:31

Brazil's state-owned oil giant has announced plans to build another refinery in the country, it has been reported.

People considering buying property in Brazil could be interested to hear that Petrobras is looking at building another refinery which will bring more jobs to the country.

The firm wants to take advantage of the large volumes of oil recently discovered in the pre-salt layer and aims to export derivatives instead of crude as the refined product is worth more, according to ANBA.

It currently has two refineries under construction - one in Rio de Janeiro and the other in Pernambuco.

During a lecture at the 20th national forum of the National Institute for Higher Studies, Jose Sergio Gabrielli, the firm's president, said the firm was studying the possibility of building another two refineries, reports the news agency.

"The idea is for this fourth refinery to be larger than the others. Studies are still being carried out, therefore we cannot provide figures with regard to investment or the volume of oil to be processed," he added.

Meanwhile, the firm announced it had struck oil again last week in an area called Bem-Te-Vi in Sao Paulo.
