Brazil Property News: Power giant set to invest in Brazil

13th May 2008 04:57

A Portuguese power giant is in talks to build an energy plant in the Latin American nation, it has emerged.

Energia de Portugal (EDP) is discussing the possibility of building a combined cycle centre with Brazilian partners.

Speaking to local reporters at a press conference, the firm's chairman, Antonio Mexia, said that the country needed more electric production and along with wind and water energy combined cycle centres would "play an important part".

"We are studying the model they use for gas supply and evaluating the possibility of participating in projects for the construction of liquified natural gas terminals," he added.

People considering buying property in Brazil could be interested to hear that the move may increase the Latin American nation's power supplies.

The EDP group claims to be one of Europe's major electricity operators as well as one of Portugal's largest organisations.

Meanwhile, Brazilian oil firm Petrobras is reportedly considering the sale of self-branded ethanol in Portugal, according to redOrbit.
