Brazil Property News: President: 2008 was 'exceptional' year for Brazil

5th January 2009 05:48

Brazilian property investors may be interested to learn that the country's president Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva has said 2008 was an "exceptional" year for Brazil, it is reported.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the commencement of work on Dona Lindu Park in Recife, President Lula da Silva said the country's poor will not suffer the consequences of the financial downturn, according to Brazzil magazine.

"The poor are not going to pay the bill for the world crisis in this country. We are not going to harm the economy because of the crisis, we do not want businessmen to quit investing," the publication quotes him as saying.

President Lula da Silva was visiting the region in his last official commitment before taking a break for vacation.

Last week, President Lula da Silva predicted that Brazil's economy will continue to grow in 2009 and that more jobs will be created, the magazine reported.
