Brazil Property News: Salvador de Bahia is a 'magnet for tourists'

29th January 2008 11:49

Salvador de Bahia in Brazil has been described as a "magnet for tourists" this week.

Joao Pedro Fonseca, who studies history in the region, told the Earth Times: "Salvador de Bahia, with its marvellous historic centre, is definitely a magnet for tourists."

The city, which between 1549 and 1763 was Brazil's capital, is considered so historically important that it was given World Heritage status by UNESCO 22 years ago.

Aurelio Rocha, a local conservationist, told the publication that the region is an "ideal location for ecotourism".

Just 430 kilometres from Salvador de Bahia holidaymakers can find the "unique, natural landscape" of Chapa Diamantina, a plateau with table mountains, canyons, waterfalls, caves and lagoons.

Yesterday the Brazilian institute of tourism, Embratur, announced that it expects over 500 travel industry professionals to attend a conference in Brazil this summer aimed at promoting the country's travel credentials.

Destination Showcase Brazil will take place between June 16th and 17th focusing on destinations in the Latin American nation such as Lençois Maranhenses, Delta do Parnaiba, Iguassu Falls, Pantanal, Bahia, Fernando de Noronha, Paraty and Angra dos Reis to name a few.
