Brazil Property News: Sao Paulo has 'greater tourism revenues'

25th October 2007 03:03

The city of Sao Paulo in Brazil has received "greater tourism revenues" according to new reports.

New figures reveal that the tax on services collected by the city hall on tourism between January and August this year exceeds that collected in the whole of 2004, reports Brazilian-Arab news agency ANBA.

Caio Luiz de Carvalho, president of Sao Paulo Turismo which promotes event organisation in the city, spoke to ANBA about Sao Paulo's success.

"The good results show what we had already been identifying in quantitative and behaviour studies – the fact that the city is evolving as a tourist destination not only for business and events, sectors already consolidated, but also as a cultural and entertainment reference," he said.

Brazil's tourist industry has increased by 134 per cent in just three years and the government has introduced a growth-acceleration package to sustain this growth, which features a $236 billion (£116 billion) investment in housing and infrastructure over the next four years.

This investment in infrastructure and Brazil's booming tourist industry may encourage property investment in Brazil, which was recently described by property experts Knight Frank as having "untapped potential".
