24th September 2007 10:35

Leading Brazilian airline, TAM, will open a new domestic air network from October 1st.

TAM will now operate 19 direct flights from Congonhas airport to destinations including Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, São José do Rio Preto and Vitória.

Also part of the airline's expansion plan is a new daily flight to Frankfurt, operating from November 30th. The company's new Airbus A340-500 aircraft will serve the flight route and have seats for 267 passengers, with economy and business class provisions.

By December, TAM also hopes to operate a daily flight to Madrid, where President Lula has recently visited to increase trade relations between his country and Spain.

The new network will operate in accordance with the stipulations of resolution 6 of Brazil's National Civil Aviation Council (CONAC), which are designed to further improve air-safety in Brazil.

TAM is Brazil's primary domestic flight operator and has a near 50 per cent domestic market share. The airline flies to 48 destinations throughout Brazil and has alliances with other international airlines such as Air France, American Airlines and TACA Group.
