Brazil Property News: Tourists should delay flights after surgery

14th April 2008 02:34

Medical tourists should delay their return home after surgery, an industry expert has said.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said that those who travel abroad to have an operation should consider delaying their return trip.

Brazil was named as one of the world's top medical tourist destinations by investment publication New Wire.

It described the Latin American nation as an "international mecca" for cosmetic and plastic surgeries.

This could be interesting news for those considering buying property in Brazil as patients will need somewhere to stay while they are recovering from an operation.

Jason Wakeford, spokesperson for the CAA, said that passengers shouldn't fly in some cases.

"For example, after day surgery, if you have had that abroad, you may want to delay your return trip to give yourself some extra time to recover," he added.

New Wire Investment reports that Brazil's "road to fame" in medical tourism began with Ivo Pitanguy, the "world-renowned plastic surgeon" who opened a clinic outside Rio de Janeiro more than 40 years ago.
