Brazil Property News: US: Brazil should lead trade talks

The United States (US) has urged Brazil to lead other developing nations in trade talks.
After the slow progress of the Doha talks, which are aimed at improving trade relations between developing and developed nations, the US is now engaged in direct talks with Brazil.
US officials, who have previously criticised developing nations for refusing to open up their manufacturing markets, said on a visit to Brazil this week that reaching a compromise on the trade deals was "closer than people think".
They urged that South American nations, including Brazil, pledge their support as this will be key in reaching a worldwide compromise.
Commerce secretary for the US, Carlos Gutierrez, said: "It's time now for Brazil to make a strong commitment, because Brazil can persuade other developing countries to do the same."
He added that countries around the world "look up to Brazil" and said that the country is "a leader because it has tremendous influence".
The US official's faith in Brazil's position on the global stage reflects growth in many economic sectors within the country.
Embratur, the Brazilian tourist board, announced record revenues from foreign tourists in August this month.
Meanwhile, Brazilian airline VRG has this month announced a new flight link to the UK as a result of growing tourist and business demands for the service.
