Brazil Property News: US tourists in Brazil spend $343m in September

5th December 2007 09:47

US tourists brought $343 million (£172 million) into the Brazilian economy in September alone this year, according to new figures published by the Central Bank.

Marking a significant up-turn in Brazil's tourist industry, the newly released figures demonstrate a 9.34 per cent increase compared with the same month in 2006.

The minister of tourism for Brazil, Marta Suplicy, said that tourism in Brazil is growing annually as a result of a series of policies that have been developed abroad.

She added: "The numbers demonstrate the international promotional work [we have done for] our tourist destinations, services and products."

Brazil's tourism institute Embratur announced earlier this year that the government had put forward funding for a tourism PR campaign in the US, which according to the new figures seems to have had a positive effect.

José Francisco de Salles Lopes, director of studies and research for Embratur, noted that September is traditionally a "low season month" in Brazil making the rise in revenue generated in this period even more impressive.
